Stone is an environmentally friendly natural product with a unique and vibrant appearance. A functional and durable material, it is suitable for a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications. Natural stone therefore contributes to a solid, authentic and elegant appearance of real estate.

Nitesco is the market leader in natural stone maintenance and renovation. With over twenty years of experience, all types of natural stone have been reviewed repeatedly. Our team masters an extensive arsenal of specialist techniques and methods to provide each stone type with the best solution. Below are some of the stone types we specialize in.

What is marble?

Marble is a metamorphosed limestone whose main constituent is calcium carbonate. There are thousands of different types of marble, each with its own character. Marble has a unique and luxurious appearance and is a popular element in interior applications and works of art.

What is slate?

Slate, like marble and quartzite, is a metamorphic type of natural stone. Whereas marble consists of limestone that has been transformed in the earth’s crust, slate is composed of transformed claystone. Because of its stratification, slate is usually split and used with the rough split surface. Slate has many uses, both indoors and outdoors, in such applications as roof tiles, flooring and paving

What is quartzite?

Quartzite is a metamorphic type of natural stone, as is marble. The stone type is formed from sandstone that has been transformed in the earth’s crust under pressure. Like slate, quartzite is a layered natural stone that is split (or cleaved) and applied with the rough cleavage surface. Quartzite can, however, be polished in some cases. The stone type is widely used on floors.

What is limestone?

Limestones are formed by depositional or precipitation processes. In sedimentary rocks, clay, sand or (in this case mainly) lime has been transported by wind, water or ice and then petrified in layers.

Limestones belonging to the precipitating rocks were formed without transport, but by organic and inorganic lime sediments that were sunk in water and deposited on the ground. Limestone in this case often contains clearly visible fossils. Limestone is widely used on interior floors.

What is Belgian hardstone?

Belgian hardstone, which is commonly used in The Netherlands, is an example of a sedimentary (precipitation) rock made from organic material. It is a compact limestone, formed in a shallow and warm sea by the clumping of numerous fossils in carbonaceous mud. Sometimes spectacular fossils from its formation can still be seen. Like other limestone types, hardstone is acid sensitive and less suitable for (kitchen) tops or exterior applications. Hardstone is widely used on interior floors.

What is travertine?

Travertine, like hard stone, is a type of limestone and an example of precipitation rock that is formed from inorganic material. Travertine is therefore sometimes called a chemical precipitation rock. The holes and large pores that naturally occur in travertine were created by, among other things, plant remains that perished after the precipitation of subsequent layers of lime. Travertine is very often found on indoor floors.

What is granite?

Granite forms deep within the earth from liquid magma. The stone is formed gradually and under high pressure. Granite is a relatively hard type of natural stone with silicon as its main constituent. The double negation causes some confusion. Suggestion: This makes granite more resistant to weathering, wear and tear and is acid resistant. For this reason, the material is often used outdoors, for example as a face plate.

What is terrazzo?

Terrazzo is also often called granito and consists of small pieces of natural stone bound with cement or epoxy resin. Like concrete, terrazzo is applied in liquid form. A mixture of stone particles and binder is poured into the work, after which the whole is rolled in. Terrazzo is mainly used on floors.

What is quartz composite?

Quartz composite, like terrazzo, is a man-made artificial stone. In this process, quartz grains are bound in epoxy resin. Unlike terrazzo, this is done in a factory. Because the material is hard and relatively acid resistant, it is mainly used for the production of washbasin, work or countertops.

What is ceramics?

Ceramics is a product made of fired clay, finished with a glaze, unlike all the previously mentioned types of natural stone and artificial stone that contain natural stone as a basic ingredient. This means that the material cannot be sanded and polished, which is possible with all the previously mentioned types of stone. Nitesco offers specific treatment methods that are well suited to ceramics.
